Work that is to be performed:

· I-40 reconstruction  -  asphalt

· Bridge rehabilitation - seven bridges

· Drainage improvements

· Barrier wall construction

· Wildlife fencing

· Signing improvements

 

 

Project Schedule:

· July 5th to November 2006– Reconstruct WB I-40

· July 5th 2006  - Reduce WB and EB I-40 to 2 lanes and close the On Ramp at NM 337 to WB I-40.

· November 2006 to March 2007– Winter Suspension                

·  ( Winter Suspension restores traffic to 3 lanes in each direction)

· March to June of 2007 - Construct EB I-40.

Lane/Ramp Closures

· Restricted periods: 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. (contractor must maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction during this time)

· Length of restrictions : From north NM 14 underpass (milepost 174) to Coyote Springs overpass (milepost 169).

· WB I-40 Ramp closure @ NM 337: July to November 2006

Alternative Routes

· For WB I-40

      You may exit at Tijeras Exit  No. 175 and

       proceed west onto NM 333 and access I-40

       at Carnuel Ramp 170.

· EB I-40

      You may exit at Carnuel Exit No. 170 proceed

       east on NM 333 and access I-40 at Tijeras

       Exit No. 175

OR Exit ramp at North 14

Proactive Measures

 

· Asphalt construction : faster, efficient, flexible.

· Seasonal Impacts: Winter suspensions; safer for drivers -  reduce impacts.

· Lane Impact  fees: $2,000/hour/lane during restricted periods.

· $23,000 Liquidated damages for exceeding the 270—2 lane restrictions.
