  • Traffic impacts: Crews will be installing detours through the first couple of weeks. Once this is complete, traffic will be shifted to eastbound I-40 for 150 days. Eastbound traffic will be restricted to one lane, with two lanes for westbound traffic throughout the work zone. All ramp access to the interstate and the overpass will remain open. Access to area businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
  • Project highlights: Full reconstruction of I-40, extension of the climbing lane further west; new overpass, new ramps, new construction of Paseo del Volcan in the surrounding area, new construction of Central Avenue inthe immediate vicinity and realignment of Central onto the exisiting southwest frontage road; and extension of current storm drain system.

  • PHASE I (75-100 days): Traffic limited to ONE lane westbound and TWO lanes eastbound in the westbound lanes. The eastbound offramp to Tijeras will be open and the I-40 eastbound onramp will be closed.
  • PHASE II (75-100 days): Traffic switched onto newly constructed eastbound lanes. I-40 westbound remains ONE lane only and I-40 eastbound will occupy TWO lanes. The I-40 westbound onramp at N.M. 337 will be closed for 30 days and the I-40 westbound offramp to N.M. 14 will close. The I-40 eastbound onramp at Tijeras will reopen in this phase.
  • Project highlights: Full reconstruction of I-40 from MP 173.73 to 177.17. A concrete median wall barrier and game fence will be installed as additional safety features.

  • Phase 1: Traffic limited to one lane westbound, two lanes eastbound at beginning of project for 75 calendar days
  • Phase 2: Switch Traffic July 20, two lanes each direction on newly built eastbound I-40 (completed Oct. 5th)
  • Phase 3: Sedillo Interchange work and I-40 remains two lanes each direction on original alignment (Oct. 6th through Nov. 16th) to allow work on ramp widening and tie-ins to existing ramps
  • Ramp closures at Zuzax and Sedillo Exits as scheduled
  • Alternate Transportation recommended during Phase 1 (Park-n-Ride or Carpool)
  • Alternate Route:  N.M. 333 (Old 66)
  • Project highlights: Two bridges widened to accommodate new eastbound truck climbing lane, wider shoulders both inside and outside, improved merge distances at entrances and exits, drainage improvements and concrete median wall barrier throughout project

  • Contractor: Albuquerque Underground Inc.
  • Phase 1: Construction on outside lanes. During construction I-40 will consist of three 11.5 foot lanes each direction with no shoulders. On nights when I-40 is reduced from three lanes to one lane, the lane will be 11.5 foot wide with two 2 foot shoulders. Onramps through the project have decreasd merge distances. Reduce your speed and allow traffic to merge. Through traffic should keep left. Project is from mile markerr 162.14 to 163.75.
  • Phase 2: Two through lanes only (westbound for 45 days with access to westbound I-40 at Wyoming prohibited and eastbound for 20 days with access to eastbound I-40 at San Mateo prohibited). Some overnight closures to install overhead variable message boards and for drainage crossing work
  • Project highlights: Longer auxiliary lanes, wider shoulders and auxiliary lanes at Wyoming and Louisiana will be much improved
