GRIP I 40 - Laguna Pueblo to Mesita
Sections Completed
GRIP Interstate 40 from Laguna Pueblo to Mesita is a weathered four lane highway in north central New Mexico. The nine-mile project includes replacing bridges and reconstructing the road’s surface. The project, which began in 2005, will be completed in three phases. Crews completed the first segment, which extends from milepost 122 to 126, in December, 2005. The New Mexico Department of Transportation awarded the construction contract for that phase of the project to APC Southern Construction Co. of Penrose, Colo. at a cost of about $6 million. The second phase was awarded to FNF Construction, Inc, and was completed in December 2007 at a cost of about $17.9 million. The third and final phase was awarded to Fisher Sand & Gravel Co. and begins in March 2009. The estimated $17.9 million project will last approximately 250 working days and includes the reconstruction of a 6-mile stretch from N.M. 6 to just east of Tohajiilee, near the Cibola/Bernalillo County Line. Traffic and Detours The current project includes reconstruction of both eastbound and westbound I-40 lanes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction with a crossover detour in effect.
