GRIP I-40 Thoreau East

The project began in March 2007 and includes reconstruction of various sections of existing eastbound and westbound lanes to include stabilization of poor subgrade soils. This work will also include the Thoreau Interchange and the Bluewater Creek Bridge.

This section of I-40 currently carries 54 percent of heavy truck traffic and is very rough, raveled, and oxidized. Improvements are needed to provide a safe and stable roadway for increasing loads, freight, and travelers.
